Dhaulagiri
Our company participated to Slovenian Expedition to Dhaulagiri (8167 m) leaded by Tomaz Humar who's mission was to climb the Southern Face of this mountain. To help with the radio communications the crew was using two of our YAGI antennas AD-40/2-3.
Image shows the "Northern Base Camp" from where Cene Bercic with other members of the crew was going to meet Dhaulagiri's heroe on his way back.
Over the pass is a platform where the helicopter was landed to pick Tomaz and the rest of the crew.

Radio communications in such areas are problematic because of the mountainous surface (obstructions, bad ground conductivity, etc) as well as because of the relatively bad efficiency of the small rubber antennas on the handheld radios. Beside that all such antennas intend to radiate somewhat "upwards" which even more reduce the communications range.
At all this a good directional antenna could increase efficiency of the radio signal. The efficiency and the gain of such antenna is fairly better as in case of short rubber antenna. And we could help ourself also with directing the antenna toward the mountain wall serving as a kind of "passive" repeater. |
